Academics

Philosophy of Education
We are committed to making God's glory and sovereignty supreme in every course that is taught. We must recognize God in worship, but we must also recognize him in algebra.

Our classes are college preparatory. Our goal is to produce young people who are able to read, write, and think biblically and critically. Students may earn either a college preparatory diploma or a general diploma. The academic requirements are demanding. There is no guarantee either of passing on to the next grade level or of passing any particular course. Indeed, while nearly one third of our students may be on the honor roll, there may be many each year who fail one or more courses. Do not fear failure! It can be one of the best things that ever happens to you! The key question is not whether you meet with success or failure, but what you do with either.

The Cono staff will do all it can to help you find success, but you are the only person who can decide what you will do. You are responsible to seek help when you need it, to have your textbooks and tools ready, and to use your time wisely. Never fear either failure or hard work. They are among the paving stones on the road to success. Fear only the attitude which surrenders before the battle is over. Some of our best senior students have been among our worst entering students. Find your limits, and then stretch them!

There are six terms of six weeks each. At the end of each term the grades to date are sent to the parents. The only exception is that no records or reports are sent when there are any fees or fines outstanding: tuition, boarding, library, etc.

At the end of each term, those whose grades average 89 or above will be placed on the honor roll if they have no failing grades. Honor roll students and senior students who board are allowed to study in their dormitory rooms during the evening study halls. Other boarding students must attend all supervised study halls.
